New project director of classical Kannada centre: Jan 19, 2016: P K Khandoba, a retired professor of Kannada at the Institute of Kannada Studies, Gulbarga University, has been appointed the project director of the Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada (CESCK) at the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru.

Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda inaugurated the Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada here on Saturday, 17th December 2011 at Mysore and said that the State Government would make all efforts to get the centre autonomous status. Noted Kannada writer Chidanandamurthy, who was one of the persons behind the demand for classical language status to Kannada, noted that higher research works needed to be undertaken in the State and outside to enrich Kannada.Union Minister for Corporate Affairs Veerappa Moily was also present at the occassion. Head, Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada, R. Subbakrishna, welcomed the gathering, while S.N. Burman, in-charge Director, CIIL, spoke.

The Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore vide its Office Order No.F.1/11-22/2010-11/ Estt. dated November 8, 2010 has nominated Dr. B. Mallikarjun, Reader-cum-Research Officer as Head of the Centre for Classical Kannada with effect from November 8, 2010.

The Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada was Inaugurated on 17th December, 2011
